The largest star is known to be as the VY Canis Majoris or VY CMa with more than 2,100 times the size of the Sun. Other Astronomers discerned that it may only be 600 times the size of the sun. It is a single crimson star located in the constellation of Canis Major. Its first recorded observation was on March 7, 1801 by Jérôme Lalande. The sun has been detected to be very unstable and may blow up as hypernova in the next hundred thousands of years.
