DO HYENAS REALLY LAUGH?

The usual call of a Hyena is a mournful howl, made with the head held near the ground. It begins with a low sound which becomes louder as the pitch rises. When excited, the Hyena makes a cackling sound which has given it the name, laughing Hyena. It is believed that Hyenas can project their voices making it hard to locate the animal from its sound.
