The life cycle of an ant has four stages- egg, larva, pupa and adult. The metamorphosis takes usually 8 to 10 weeks. The adults in an ant colony are made up of the queen, the males and the workers. The workers are wingless, sterile females and live upto seven years. The queen lives upto fifteen years. The male ants die soon after mating and their life-span may be as short as a few days.
