WHERE DO BUTTERFLIES GO WHEN IT RAINS?

      In fine weather we find butterflies flitting about in the garden but when it rains they seem to disappear. When there is a shower, butterflies settle on the stems of flowers or stalks of grass with their head down and wings folded over their back. In this position, only the pale underside of the wings is seen and is hardly noticeable compared to the gay, vivid colours and patterns of their outstretched wings in flight. So we feel that butterflies disappear in the rains.

WHY DO MILITARY MEN HAVE BITS OF GRASS AND LEAVES STICKING TO THEIR CAPS?

If you were to look at the uniform of soldiers from the olden days, you'd be impressed by the vivid colours and flashy brass trimmings. Red, Blue, Yellow and White were greatly favoured for designing soldiers' uniforms. They look spectacular indeed but their resplendent uniforms made them very conspicuous and an easy target for the enemy. Soon man learned from nature. Many animals including Chameleons, Butterflies and other insects have skin which blend so well with their surroundings that they can hardly be made out. In the jungle, a Tigers yellow and brown stripes help him to merge with the brown tree trunks and yellow plants. Nowadays, soldiers' uniforms as well as war vehicles are camouflaged to make them invisible against the battlefield. On the battlefield, soldiers are dressed in greenish brown mottled uniforms and have sprigs of branches stuck to their helmets so that they can blend with their surroundings.
