WHY DO FIREFLIES LIGHT UP?

Fireflies or lightning bugs emit light to communicate. More often a firefly use light to attract a mate. The light production occurs on their lower abdomen which produces a chemical called bioluminescence. Fireflies also use this kind of light to warn predators. Since, they are being associated with their foul taste and of being toxic; predators would learn to keep away from them the next instance. Fireflies can produce several colors and patterns as their signal. It can be light-red, yellow or green in a steady or in a
flashing glow.
